The Circus

We started our new 'Circus' topic today and enjoyed taking part in several circus skills workshops. We learned how to balance a peacock feather on our fingers, shoulders and philtrum, how to juggle with two balls and then three scarves, how to use a diablo and lots more. Look at some of our pictures below.

We will not be working towards a specific project during this topic but we will learn and discover all about the circus through all curriculum subjects.  In Literacy we will be reading and writing information texts about the history of the circus and Science will see us explore light and shadows through circus shadow puppets. Numeracy will focus on position, direction and turns, linking to acrobats and trapeze artists.

Please continue to support your child's learning further at home through daily reading and times table practise.

Many thanks.

Forest School campfire

We had a lovely time this morning at Forest School. We built our own camp fire and whittled willow sticks to then allow us to toast marshmallows.  Look at some of our photographs.

Year 4 job scheme

As part of our transition work for preparing the children for moving into their next school, we provide the children with opportunities to take on greater responsibility in school.  We will be introducing a ‘Job scheme’ for the Year 4 children next half term. This will involve the children, who would like to take part, applying for ‘jobs’ within school, carrying out their responsibilities and being rewarded with payment by Blackwell Pounds. These Blackwell Pounds can be spent in school on a variety of rewards, from hiring a DVD overnight to choosing their class seat for a day. The children will be given a Blackwell Bank card, put their money into the bank, learn how to write cheques and develop an understanding of interest!  This has been a huge success over the last two years and it will encourage responsibility and enterprise in the children and give them a head start towards adulthood.

The Snowman

Well done to everyone for our Christmas production of 'The Snowman'. With only two weeks to learn your parts you all performed extremely well and produced a fabulous show. I have been told that several parents told Mrs Moss it has been the best Blackwell Christmas play to date! You should be very proud of yourselves. Visit our Learning Zone page to tell me what you enjoyed most.
