Forest School Fun

We have all enjoyed our Forest School sessions during the Spring term and our creations and adventures have certainly developed and become very advanced such as a working zip wire and Robinson Crusoe shelters! The photographs below show some of our experiences at Forest School.

Unfortunately during the next half term we will not be going to our Forest School site. This is because the site is in need of a period of rest due to the increased number of sessions that have taken place so far this year.  During our Science work we will be looking at soil compaction and its affects, how we can help sustain the site and also begin to make plans to develop a second Forest School site! After May half term we will continue with our Forest School sessions.

Successful story sacks

Well done Blue Class for your brilliant story sacks that you created for children at Abbeywood First School. The children who delivered the sacks said the reception children were thrilled to receive them and enjoyed playing with them particularly the puppets. I have heard from their teacher that they continue to be the most popular choice of activity in their classroom!

Half term idea?

If you are looking for ideas to keep your children busy over half term, a few parents have brought to my attention an activity that is happening at Avoncroft Museum which fits in well with our recent 'Narnia' topic.  'Adventures in Narnia' is taking place from Tuesday 22nd February to Thursday 24th February. It has been advertised in the local newspaper as:

'The magical land of Narnia is in trouble again! Visit the Great Hall of Cair Paravel to prepare you for your Narnia Adventure to collect and make the items you will need for your quest. Return to the Great Hall once you are victorious for your coronation as a King or Queen of Narnia!

Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children.  Booking tickets in advance is recommended.

Anne Frank DVD

Next week we will be developing our understanding of Judaism and learning about the life of Anne Frank. I would like to show the children clips from ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ DVD which is certified as a PG. Only clips that I feel are age and content appropriate will be shown. If you have any concerns regarding the DVD please come and chat to me before Monday morning.
Many thanks. Miss Townsend

Tag Rugby

During this half term, on Monday afternoons, we have braved the cold and often wet conditions and taken part in tag rugby training run by Kings Norton Rugby Club coaches. The children have enjoyed this experience and have grown in confidence and skill over the weeks.  Last Friday saw a group of Year 4 children take part in a tag rugby tournament with other local first schools where they showed great team spirit, excellent sportsmanship and were involved in close scoring matches.

The training sessions have now come to an end and we will move onto a different area of P.E. Therefore your child just needs to have their normal P.E. in school which should include a warm tracksuit.  Thank you.
